Hospital Week aims to Raise Fund for Vaiola Hospital Featured
Nuku'alofa, 6 November 2015. This week’s Hospital Week is being used by the Board of Visitors of Vaiola Hospital to raise funds for the purchase of a washing machine and a dryer for the hospital.
The Treasury of the Board, Rev Feonisia Sikalu said they hope to raise at least $20,000 Pa’anga during the week. And she added that the week’s theme “Universal Coverage) reminds us that there is no one left alone to carry his or her own burden of health problems.
“They chose this theme just to remind us that there is no one left alone,” Rev Feonisia said. Hospital Week started on Sunday and will end on Saturday, November 7.
Rev Feonisia said the target of this year’s Hospital Week is to buy a washing machine together with a dryer machine for the hospital to use.
“We run the Hospital Week according to what the hospital needs. This year they asked us to buy them a washing machine and a dryer. So we are focusing on raising a fund to buy these two machine,” he said.
“Both the washing machine and the dryer cost approximately 10, 0000 New Zealand Dollars, which is equivalent to 20,0000 Tongan Pa’anga.”
The Hospital Week started on Sunday, followed by an early morning exercise on Monday at the Digicel Square here in central Nuku’alofa.
The daily program includes a physical exercise program every morning followed a healthy breakfast and fund-raising during the day.
“We are targeting $10,000 Pa’anga from the breakfast but it’s up to what the people have to offer us and that also applies to the lunch we are selling here at the Digicel Square.”
The major fund-raising event will be the dinner at the Kuini Salote College Hall on Friday.
“Our major fundraising will be on Friday evening which is a dinner and we already giving out invitation for the dinner,” he said.
“There were years that the fundraising of the Hospital Week was held overseas so in 2013 it was held here in Tonga and it was on a low-scale because the needs of the hospital was not that much.
“Last year there wasn’t any Hospital Week or fundraising but this year the hospital management came to us and said they needed a washing machine and a dryer so that is why we are doing this.”
