Parliament unanimously passed first reading of the 2025/2026 Appropriation Bill

6 June 2025. The Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the first reading of the 2025/2026 Appropriation Bill during yesterday’s session.

Minister of Finance and Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. ‘Aisake Eke, announced total budget allocations of $992.8 million, a 6.7% increase from the previous year. The budget is divided into:

  • Recurrent budget: $603.0 million (61%)
  • Development budget: $389.8 million (39%)

Dr. Eke noted a projected recurrent budget deficit of $29.1 million, mainly due to major infrastructure investments. The budget’s theme is “Re-focusing Resource Allocation on Impactful Projects for a Sustainable, Viable Economy.”

Key initiatives include the construction of the Fanga‘uta Bridge, upgrades to Vava‘u Hospital, renewable energy projects, and improvements to health centres, roads, airports, and outer island facilities.

The Prime Minister acknowledged current economic challenges and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure steady and inclusive growth.
