Driver and Passengers sustained Injuries from Reckless Driving
16 May 2022. Police, on Sunday, 14 May 2023 at around 7:40 pm, received reports from Pea of a motor vehicle accident that resulted in the injuries of a 30-year-old male driver along with his four passengers, a 42-year-old female with three children, a 10-year-old girl, and 5-and-3-year-old boys.
They were heading in a northern direction on the Taufa’ahau Road when the driver recklessly sped and lost control of the wheel, which caused the car to swerve and hit another vehicle that was parked on the side of the road adjacent to the Free Wesleyan Church at Pea, before crashing onto the church’s fence.
The victims were rushed to the Vaiola Hospital where their injuries are being treated. Meanwhile, Police investigations into the incident continue.
In less than 24 hours and on Monday morning, 15 May 2023, a similar occurrence was encountered at Ma’ufanga where a 22-year-old female from Ma’ufanga recklessly drove her vehicle into another vehicle driven by a 45-year-old male from Ma’ufanga.
The female driver, who was travelling in a southern direction on Kumifonua Road at Ma’ufanga, failed to STOP at the Kumifonua and ‘Alaivahamama’o By-Pass intersection. After hitting the other car, her car crashed onto a residential house on the roadside.
Fortunately, there were no severe injuries, but the female driver remains at the hospital for minor treatment. “These road accidents are very much preventable.
We need every driver and road user to take their responsibility while on the road seriously, for their safety, and the safety of others,” urged Deputy Commissioner Operations, Tevita Vailea.
