A new Anti- Corruption Commissioner appointed for Tonga

6 April 2024. The Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku has announced in Parliament the appointment of James Christopher LaHatte as the new anit-corruption Commissioner for Tonga.

The King in Privy Council has approved the appointment of the New Zealand lawyerfor a five-year contract effective on July 1 2024.

The  Hon. Hu'akavameiliku said that this is a great milestone for Tonga and James Christopher LaHatte will be the first Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Kingdom.
 
The Anti-Corruption Commission Act was enacted in Parliament in 2007 and since then preceded governments have failed to implement the office until the current government pushed for its establishment resutled in the current appointment of Mr. LaHatte.
