Tongan Consulate office in Auckland commenced printing of Tongan Passports Featured
4 September, 2022. On Monday 29 August 2022, Tonga’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Tourism, Hon. Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, officially launched the printing of Tongan Passports at the Consulate of the Kingdom of Tonga in Auckland, New Zealand.
The installation of the passport printing equipment in Auckland enables the Tongan Consulate to process and print Tongan passports in New Zealand and better serve the consular needs of the Tongan diaspora in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
This service includes the printing of new Tongan passports, the renewal of expired Tongan passports; extensions of Tongan passports; and issuance of Certificates of Identity (temporary travel documents).
This inaugural initiative has been a longstanding priority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance engagements with the Tongan community overseas, such as providing on-site services to the diaspora at locations that Tongan has diplomatic presence in.
The printing of Tonga passports in Auckland will facilitate the high consular demand from the Tongan community, with an estimated 85, 000 persons of Tongan descent residing in and calling New Zealand home.
