Tonga's Minister of Infrastructure 'Etuate Lavulavu to face Bribery Trial Featured

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tonga Owen Paulsen on Wednesday 11 March 2015 confirmed the date for the trial by Jury of the Minister of Infrastructure Mr. 'Etuate Lavulavu.
The trial will be held in Vava'u presided by Chief Justice Owen Paulsen from 13 to 17 of April next month.
A former Vava'u People's Representative Dr Viliami Uasike Latu and 'Aisea Silivenusi a Candidate for the Vava’u 16 Constituency in December 2014 filed a petition to the Supreme Court of Tonga upon the grounds that ‘Etuate Lavulavu who won the seat for Vava’u 16 Constituency committed bribery and corrupt illegal practices in connection with his election contrary to section 21 and 24 of Electoral Act 1989.
Mr. Lavulavu is represented by ‘Ofa Pouono and William Clive Edwards Sr. for the petitioners Mr. ‘Aisea Silivenusi and Dr. Latu.
