Accredited short-term training on climate change resilient commenced today Featured
24 July, 2017. A four-week short-term accredited training, commencing today at Tungi Colonnade is seeking to enhance participants’ knowledge on climate resilience related areas specifically on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
The Climate Resilient Tonga professional development program is funded by the Asian Development Bank through the Climate Resilience Sector Project (CRSP) implemented by the Climate Change Department under the Ministry of MEIDECC.
CEO for MEIDECC Mr. Paula Pouvalu Ma’u at the opening session of the training emphasized that this is one of the most important components of CRSP.
“This training aims to assist you participants in capacity building so that you can carry out your responsibilities effectively at work. This event is one of the most important components of CRSP. There are several components of this project which include building of the sea wall at Hahake, Tongatapu, construction of a new hospital for Ha’apai, establishment of a trust fund to assist communities’ activities and 20 scholarships awarded at the beginning of this year among others.”

- Approaches to developing national environmental accounts for Tonga, including carbon and energy accounts
- Current frameworks for climate change adaptation and resilience in policy and practice
- Approaches to performance monitoring and evaluation of environmental programs
- Communications of adaptation action and community engagement strategies and
- Emergency risk management and disaster preparedness
The program is designed and delivered by Sustainably Pty Ltd from Australia and supported by TAFE New South Wales (NSW). The two-week event is facilitated by Dr Fabian Sack, Ms. Judy Turnbull, Dr Viliami Uasike Latu, Mr. John Clarke, Dr Christopher Dey, Dr Deb O’connell, Ms. Louise Boronyak and Adjunct Associate Professor David Parsons.
