13 February 2016. A Pregnant woman who became the third confirmed case of Zika virus in southeast Queensland this year contracted the illness in Tonga. It is believed the Pacific ­Islander woman was in Tonga visiting family before returning to southeast Queensland.

8 February, 2016. Australia pledged up to AUS$500,000 (US$354,000) in aid for its Pacific island neighbours on Sunday to help combat the spread of the Zika virus after an outbreak in Tonga last week raised concern in the region.

7 February, 2016. A teenage girl who took a last minute holiday to Tonga with friends has rushed home with a suspected case of the feared virus Zika.

4 February, 2016. Tonga has declared a Zika epidemic after confirming two people have contracted the mosquito-borne virus, with 265 suspected cases.

30 January 2016. The Ministry of Health has extended its travel advice on Zika virus in the Pacific after one case was reported in Tonga. Tonga and Samoa are now regarded as areas of active transmission, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
