'Asipeli Palaki New CEO for Lands & Natural Resources Featured

Nuku'alofa, September 2015. Mr. ‘Asipeli Palaki, of Mounga’one Ha’apai, Noapapu Vava’u and Haveluloto Tongatapu has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for Lands and Natural Resources, following an official decision made by the Public Service Commission on the 14 September, 2015 in consultation with the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.

The appointment is made with effect from Wednesday 16 September, 2015 for a period of three (3) years.

As Chief Executive Officer for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Palaki has the responsibility of managing the administrative, operational and broader functions and activities of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. In addition, he will be responsible to the Public Service Commission for implementing government policies and decisions and for developing and leading programs to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery outcomes.

Mr. ‘Asipeli Palaki was also the previous holder of the Chief Executive Officer for Lands and Natural Resources position from 2012 until July, 2015.
Mr. Palaki’s career in the public service began in 1984 as a Cadet Computer for the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Natural Resources. In 1986 Mr. Palaki was promoted to the position of National Park Ranger and since then, he was appointed to senior positions in the Ministry, including Environment Officer, Head of Planning and Assessment Division; Deputy Director for the Department of Environment as well as Acting CEO of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change from 2009 until 2012.

Mr. ‘Asipeli Palaki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science (1992) from James Cook University, Australia. Mr. Palaki has sat and chaired various professional and technical committees in Government and has continued to conduct relevant research and publish studies during his public service career.
The Public Service Commission welcomes Mr. ‘Asipeli Palaki’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer for Lands and Natural Resources and looks forward to his continued contributions to the Ministry and the Government of Tonga.
