GC2018: Tonga CGA (TASANOC) confirmed Magan Maka as Flag Bearer, Opening Ceremony Featured
26 March, 2018. The Tonga Commonwealth Games Association (TASANOC) has confirmed last week the nomination of Female Boxer, Miss Magan Maka as Tonga’s Flag Bearer for the XXI Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
Miss Maka, who is coached by her father, Fili, would be competing in the Female 69kg division. According to the TASANOC Office, Female Boxing is competed for the first time in the Games.
Magan is based and trained in Auckland and she had returned to boxing after a short break during the past 2 years. Tonga Boxing and TASANOC were also worked together in getting her release from New Zealand Boxing as well as approval of the International Federation (AIBA).
“Magan has been training hard and she looks strong”, according to TASANOC Secretary General. He added that Magan is one of our medal prospect but so as all our boxers. Magan and Tu’ihalangingie Vea (Men’s 60kg) both trained and prepared by Fili while the other 3 boxers are based and trained in Brisbane.
Members of Team Tonga commence travel to the Gold Coast from Monday (26th March) this week. Team Tonga will be boost by the presence of Their Majesties at the Gold Coast for the early part of the Games.
