Last contingent of Team Tonga departs for Port Vila Featured
11 December, 2017. The members of the last contingent of Team Tonga, namely, Archery, Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Boxing and Netball departed to Port Vila this early hours of the morning today, Monday 11th December.
A total of about 42 members of athletes and officials who will complete the second week as well as the closing of the Games this Friday 15th December 2017.
This was the second wave of travel on the Air Vanuatu charter flight which also returned with those members and sports/NF’s that had completed the first week. Returning on this morning flight were members of Team Table Tennis, Golf and Rugby 7’s (Men’) as well as General Team Manager, ‘Inoke Afeaki.
To date as far as Team Tonga performance, we have won 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes in Judo as well as a bronze medal in Tennis for “Team event” and also Rugby 7’s (Men’s). Team Tonga Rugby 7’s also qualified to the World Rugby 7’s circuit in Hong Kong as well as the World Cup in San Francisco in July 2018. Therefore, so far Tonga has won 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronzes.
The Tongan community in Vanuatu also worshipped together with all members of Team Tonga last Sunday and luncheon was provided by Tongans and friends who resides or work in Vanuatu and held at the residence of Fe’iloakitau and Eleni Tevi.
The events and competitions for the second week for the Games commence today while Football and Tennis continue.
