Tonga Police supporting kindergarten’s career program

A Police team led by Inspector ‘Eliseni Soakai, along with Sergeant Losemalia Tu’uholoaki and Constable Ahosiu Tali visited the pre-school located at Tu’atākilangi on Wednesday, 14th September 2022.

They helped to explain functions of police officers, who are responsible for keeping the peace and keeping everyone safe.

The very young audience, some of whom were reluctant at first to come close to the police officers and some cried when they heard the police siren.

“I can tell from when we arrived that some of the kids chose to remain inside their classroom because they fear police.

It is normal that parents and guardians use police at home as a means to discipline or scare their kids.

I am urging parents to stop that practice and teach their children the truth – that a police officer’s job is to help them in time of trouble or when they need help, and to keep them safe,” said Sergeant Tu’uholoaki.

Sergeant Tu’uholoaki, a Trainer at the Police College explained that it was indeed a great opportunity for these kids to sit alongside actual police officers without being afraid of them.

Part of the program was showing the kids some of the Police equipment including handcuffs, a baton, and pepper spray, which they were all so excited to see.

They were also given a chance to ride in the police van and sit on a police motorcycle and hear the Police sirens.

The principal and teachers at the school acknowledged Tonga Police for making the effort to visit them and allowing the children to learn more about Police and their work.
