Minister for MEIDECC launches new mobile operator Featured
6 September, 2021. The Minister for MEIDECC, Hon. Poasi Tei launched the TokoWireless Network, on Friday 3 September at their new office at Pacific Timber Hardware (PTH).
TokoWireless Network is operated under the WanTok Pacific Corporation. The newly formed company provides local mobile network with low-cost calls, chat and SMS locally and abroad, broadband and a new money transfer service in collaboration with KlickEx Pacific.
Hon Poasi Tei said, “This company will contribute to the development of a more competitive Information and Communications Technology sector in Tonga and provide continuous quality service at a very affordable price for customers.”
Commercial Operations Manager Mr Dennis Fuapau said, “I’m pleased to be spearheading changes for the Pacific’s communications landscape – at the helm of the Pacific island owned business. As Pacific islanders, communication is critical to use. We need to ensure that we can stay in touch and connected with our families and friends here and abroad.”
“Wantok will make it even more cost effective for our people to stay in touch.”
He said customers will be able to “add up to four other international mobile numbers. That means any user in Tonga will now be able to have their own Canadian, US, Tongan, Vanuatu or UK number.”
Fuapau noted that the new money transfer service – Wantok Money will enable users in Australia and New Zealand to send, save and receive money in Tonga.
“WanTok Broadband will provide great speeds and unlimited downloads. In coverage areas we will offer excellent value packages for businesses and for home users.”
He said that the company has built new cell towers in Nuku’alofa and an off-island bandwidth has been connected.
“This means we can deliver an excellent customer experience for our broadband, mobile and money customers.”
