Appointment of the Honorary Consul of Spain for the Kingdom of Tonga Featured
30 May, 2021. Mrs. ‘Amelia Fakahikuo’uiha Liliu’okalani Fonua Helu had been appointed as the new Honorary Consul of Spain for the Kingdom of Tonga.
At a short ceremony held this morning at the Cabinet chambers, Prime Minister’s Office, Mrs. Helu was presented with the Letter of Exequatur by the Hon. Rev. Dr. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa, Prime Minister of Tonga.
The presentation of the Letter of Exequatur on behalf of His Majesty’s Government granted the authority to the Honorary Consul to operate within the consular district of the Kingdom of Tonga and to exercise consular services to nationals of Spain in Tonga.
The appointment of Mrs. Helu presents the opportunity to strengthen the contacts and relationships between Spain and the Kingdom of Tonga.
This appointment will be concurrent to her role as the Honorary Consul of Finland in the Kingdom of Tonga.
Mrs. Helu is a former Tongan diplomat; she served as First Secretary at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Tonga in Beijing, China, from 2008 to 2011.
She holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, a Bachelor of Arts degree from ‘Atenisi University, in addition to a Diploma Certificado in the Spanish language from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain.
Mrs. Helu is the sole proprietor of the A&J Fabric Store, Johnia Finance, JH Electrical Contractor & Supplies and JH Hiring Equipment. She is married to Mr. Siosaia Helu of Kolofo’ou and they have three children.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Cabinet Ministers, Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet Mr. Edgar Cocker, officials of the Foreign Ministry, and members of the Honorary Consul’s family.
