New Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Education and Training Featured
11 November, 2019. The Public Service Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Tangikina Moimoi Steen of Tatakamotonga and Kolonga, Tongatapu as Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Education and Training effective from 11th November 2019 for a period of two (2) years.
Dr Steen holds several academic qualifications; a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD – Computer Education) from the University of South Australia, a Master of Education (Information Technology) from Deakin University, VIC Australia, a Graduate Diploma of Education (Adult and Further Training) and a Graduate Diploma in System Analysis from the University of South Australia, and a Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Sciences), University of Adelaide in South Australia.
Dr Steen began her career as a Science and Mathematics teacher at Queen Salote College in 1976, 1987 and part of 2014.
From 1988 to 1999, she was employed by the South Australian Institute of Technology (now the University of South Australia) as a Senior Tutor/Lecturer in Mathematics and Computing Studies.
She has held various senior academic and management positions at the University of South Australia, namely Senior Lecturer, Program Director and Associate Professor of Teaching and Learning and Acting Head of School of the David Unaipon College of Indigenous Education and Research (& precedents) (2003 – 2015); Associate Professor and Acting Head of School, Associate Head of School: Academic and Program Director at the School of Communication and International Studies (2016 – 2018). Dr Steen currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer, Honours, Masters & PhD Supervisor at the School of Creative Industries, Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of South Australia prior to taking up her appointment as Chief Executive Officer for Education and Training.
The Public Service Commission welcomes Dr Tangikina Moimoi Steen’s appointment as the CEO for the Ministry of Education and Training and wishes her success in her term in Office.

This is the proof of what I always and will always taukave'i, Tonga can not be running by the local natives. They MUST bring the expertise and experiences of Tongans from abroad. This is no difference from bringing healthcare professionals to assist with Vaiola limited knowledge. You all understand that concept and its' impact. Likewise thru' out the government potungaue, they have the limited knowledge to run their respective functions. Only and only a foreign Tongan mind will lift the country to the next stage.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Dr Tangikina Moimoi Steen. WHY NOT APPOINT HER TO MINISTER OF EDUCATION? Why is she to answer to low academic achievers? This is not progressive thinking; it's educational insulting: PUTTING THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE, EH?
