Since 1997, the Australian Government has awarded more than 400 scholarships for Tongan students to undertake long term higher education in Australia and the Pacific region.
Australia Awards are long-term awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The scholarships aim to contribute to the development needs of Australia's partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements.
Awards provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at universities in Australia and the Pacific.
The scholarships are a platform to help develop the skills and knowledge of scholarship recipients to drive change and contribute to development in their own countries.
