Re: Opening Ceremony - Tonga flag bearer steal the show

You may have all read about it but here in Rio, that was the talking of the town. Now there are people here in Brazil and Latin America googling and trying to find out about Tonga.

Pita and Coach will go on “live” with NBC Today on Monday (8 Aug) which will be viewed by more than 50 million people in the United States.

Re: Amini completed his event after first heat

Amini Fonua completed his competition last Saturday after the first heat of the Men’s 100m breaststroke with a time of 1.06.40 seconds. The field was always a tough and strong field with 48 swimmers and with Adam Peaty of Great Britain setting a World and Olympic Record with a time of 57.13 seconds.

Re: Lord Vaea presented donation to athletes.

The Team Tonga had a prayer and meeting on Sunday evening at the Olympic Village in which Lord Vaea (Representative of the President of TASANOC) presented each of the 7 athletes with “extra spending money” donated by Hon Consul of the Kingdom of Tonga in Sydney, Ms Louise Waterhouse.

The meeting was also attended by Team attache, Paul Bragiel and other officials of the team. A word of encouragement from Lord Vaea in which he would like to see where TASANOC and Government can work together to help prepare and train our athletes to the very best leading up to these Games.

He also thanked the athletes and also their respective officials for their sacrifice and hard work towards attending the Games.
