In the keynote address by H.E. Mr. ISHII Tetsuya he reiterated that the main objective of Japan’s GGP is to directly meet the various needs of communities, and empower communities through various activities. The funding will enable upgrade work to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Facility for Queen Salote College in the field of Home Economics. “It is our belief that both education and training of the youth are the base for developing a community, and it will become the key for further developing a country as a whole,” said the Ambassador. He was pleased that the GGP will also fund upgrade to the water supply of Nukunuku Village, and the upgrade work for Malau Community Hall in ‘Eua island, which significantly will serve as a shelter during times of disasters.
Ms. Funaki Paea, Head of Queen Salote College TVET thanked the Ambassador and the people of Japan. She said a dream of yesterday is a reality today and is a blessing for tomorrow, and they the beneficiaries of Japan’s GGP cannot thank Japan enough.
Japan’s GGP was introduced in 1990 and over 290 projects have been implemented throughout the Kingdom of Tonga.
