Ports Authority received fifty trolleys donated by the PDL & DTL

9 September, 2019. Mr. Sione Talanoa (Manager Security & Domestic Port Operations) on behalf of the Ports Authority Tonga on 2nd September 2019 proudly received fifty new baggage trolleys donated by the Pacific Direct Line (PDL) and Dateline Transam Shipping Ltd (DTL).

The trolleys can handle a load of 150kgs, made of stainless steel. Their heavy duty and medium weight are designed to use in wet, corrosive and hygiene critical areas. The Board of Directors, CEO and Staff of the Authority are pleased to acknowledge the first assistance towards the day to day operation of the Taufaáhau Tupou IV Domestic Wharf.

Mr. Lupeni Ótuhouma (Operations Manager, DTL) who presented these generous gifts on behalf of PDL and DTL said that “this is part of the ongoing support from their companies to Ports Authority Tonga’s service delivery to the public and the services facilitated at the new Domestic Wharf”.

The new trolleys will assist the passengers in carrying their cargoes and their luggages within and around the wharf facility and inside the terminal. PAT anticipates that the trolleys will reduce the burden of having to hand carry luggages or cargoes around the Domestic Wharf as passengers make their way to and from the local vessels.

The Taufaáhau Tupou IV Domestic Wharf serves over 4000 passengers coming in and leaving the Domestic Wharf on a monthly basis. The new trolleys will certainly make the process of loading and unloading services at the wharf much easier for the people travelling to and from the Outer Islands of Tonga.

The Ports Authority Tonga’s Acting CEO, Mr. Álo Maileseni, acknowledged the support from Dateline Transam Shipping Ltd and looks forward to rolling out the new baggage trolleys at the new Taufa’ahau Tupou IV Domestic Wharf Terminal.

Mr Maileseni further added that “the new trolleys will contribute to easing services facilitated by the Authority safely and efficiently”. As Tonga approaches the busiest travel period of the year, summer peak, it is important that the Domestic Wharf have the right equipment to assist the passengers’ travelling to and from Taufaáhau Tupou IV Domestic Wharf”.
