China Provides Medical Supply to Support Tongan Health Sector Featured

Nuku'alofa, 28 November 2015. On 26 November 2015, H.E. Huang Huaguang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Kingdom of Tonga and Hon. Dr. Saia Piukala, Tongan Minister of Health signed the handover certificate on a package of medical materials valued about 2 million Pa’anga provided by Chinese Government to support the health development of Tonga. Mr. Li Dan, WHO Representative in Tonga and senior staff from Tongan Ministry of Health attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, H.E. Ambassador Huang said, health is one of the most important areas for China-Tonga cooperation. It’s closely related with the living quality of people and is vital to the targets of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Both China and Tonga are developing countries and our people share the same pursuit of a healthier life style. Chinese side is looking forward for more cooperation in health sector in future.
Hon. Dr. Saia Piukala said he was impressed by the remarks of H.E. President Xi Jinping during the World Development Summit which was held in United Nations headquarter last September.
In the Summit, China committed 2 billion USD to set up South South Cooperation Fund to held developing countries to reach the 2030 SDGs, which was widely welcomed and appreciated by developing countries including Tonga.
The five-container medical materials from China include bandage, surgical blades, disposable syringe, incubators, blood pressure monitors and etc.
