Tu’utafaiva placed 5th and qualified for Final Athletics (Women’s Shotput) Featured
13 April, 2018. Miss Atamaama Tu’utafaiva completed her event in women’s shotput during the Group A qualifying round yesterday.
She threw 14.79m in her first shot and did not improve on that mark with her two following throws. However, despite not reaching her personal best (PB) (14.95m) from Vanuatu last year, she qualified and proceeded for the final round today.
The top 12 women shot-putters included current Commonwealth Games champion, Valerie Adams, who threw 18.52m to make a statement for the others.
Tu’utafaiva bettered her placement ahead of fellow competitors from Oceania, Tereapii Tapoki of Cook Islands (12.60m) and Chanana Jeremaiah of Nauru (10.12m) as well as of Trevia Gumbs of British Virgin Islands (14.03m).
