NZ-Pacific Sporting Partnership an excellent and forward looking investment: Lord Sevele Featured
19 September, 2016. The Chairman of the 2019 Pacific Games Organizing Committee, and Vice President – Finance of TASANOC, Lord Sevele has welcomed the recent announcement by Prime Minister John Key of the NZ-Pacific Sporting Partnership.
Lord Sevele says it is an excellent and forward-looking investment, and should be embraced by all with open arms and gratitude.
Lord Sevele adds that this programme complements the Pacific Games whose two-pronged vision is one of not only providing the sporting facilities for the hosting of the Games but more importantly also of encouraging our people to lead a healthier and happier lifestyle through sports.
The New Zealand Government was the first donor to provide funding for the constructions of the facilities for the Games – the reconstruction and upgrade of the Teufaiva Stadium.
Although details of this sporting Partnership are yet to be made available, the Organizing Committee and TASANOC are looking forward to working with the NZ and Tonga Governments on how best to maximize this opportunity for the benefit of our young people.
Lord Sevele concludes that this is not just a responsibility of Government nor of the sporting organizations – it is the shared responsibility of all – parents, children, schools, Government, Parliamentarians, Organizing Committee, TASANOC, sports federations, and the wider public and communities.
