Pita Taufatofua makes shiny comeback at Olympics Closing Ceremony Featured
22 August, 2016. The oily man’s star is shining just as bright as his skin.
Rain poured down during the Closing Ceremony at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games on Sunday night, but it didn’t stop Tongan athlete Pita Nikolas Taufatofua from returning to the spotlight at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium.
The taekwondo competitor took center stage during Julia Michaels and Kygo’s performance of their hit “Carry Me,” dancing as the water hit his oiled-up muscles.
It’s been two weeks since Taufatofua became an internet sensation at the Olympics Opening Ceremony, where he showed skin while serving as flag bearer for the Polynesian country of Tonga.
Elsewhere at the Olympics Closing Ceremony, dancers hit the stage in bird costumes, forming the shape of Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue; many people stopped gold-winning gymnast Simone Biles for selfies as she held the American flag; and 11,000 Olympians came together.
But perhaps no one put on a show quite as tweet-worthy as Taufatofua.
