Attorney General now a member of parliament law committee Featured

31 October, 2018. Tonga's Attorney General is now a member of Parliament's Legislation Standing Committee.
Parliament approved the move on Monday.
The Speaker, Lord Fakafanua, said it was crucial the Attorney General became a member of the committee with no casting vote, similar to how the Auditor General was part of the Public Accounts Committee.
He said the committee's work will now be more effective.
Normally the Attorney General is co-opted to provide legal opinion to committees if required.
Ha'apai MP Veivosa Taka said he believes parliament should stick to that routine, calling on the Attorney General.
He said it's the responsibility of committee members to carry out their work themselves.
But Tongatapu MP Siaosi Sovaleni moved the motion saying the Attorney General played an important role explaining the purpose of bills.
Justice Minister Vuna Fa'otusia was also in favor of the motion.

MR SPENCER FOLAU...Tongan law books are sold at the Bookstore, Tungi Colonade. But only 1 left last time I was there.
Secondly, I don't see a reference to the Law Committee in the article. Legislation Standing Committee, I believe it is a disciplinary committee in Parliament. The Law Society is a closed-door group for the legal profession. -
I am assuming the Law Committee are the governing body who create and changes the laws? BTW, I have been looking for the Tonga Law book.but I can't find one. No wonder why I am in the dark. Anyhow can someone explain the role of the Law Committee and who are the members. Thank you

Why so much ruckus within the Governing body of this land of ours ?As ones sees it the country is run by a bunch of young kids under the leadership of a old and senile man who is losing his grip on reality and his GOVERNMENT is falling apart around him like a house of CARDS . The whole Governing body running Tonga is beginning to resemble a couple going through a very nasty bitter divorce ( the Premier and the Parliament) 'cause they don't see eye to eye , always bicker over who gets what from the divorce it's a damn shame , that it has come this . It takes years to build , a short time to destroy / ?????
