Tonga contributes to Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program in Australia

5 August, 2019. The Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program (AACAP) is run annually to support remote aboriginal communities. It is a joint initiative of the Australian Army and the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).

This year, His Majesty’s Armed Forces (HMAF) sent a nine person team from the 1st construction engineer squadron to support the efforts in the Jigalong community, in Western Australia.

This is a great opportunity for Australian and Tongan engineers to work together on large construction tasks and share construction skills.

Each year the programme is led by the Army’s 6th Engineer Support Regiment, with support from 17th Combat Service Support Brigade and other units around Australia.

The AACAP 2019 workforce includes engineers from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and HMAF, Tonga.

In previous years, Tonga has sent a contingent to AACAP and Australia values this partnership in supporting the development of Australian indigenous communities in remote parts of Australia.
