The Queen shares memories from Tonga ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan’s tour Featured

Having been the Queen since she was just 25 years old, Her Majesty has travelled all over the world – from America to Canada to the South Pacific – and she’s got the memories to prove it. In a clip from the highly anticipated documentary, Queen of the World, she speaks about her memories of the Kingdom of Tonga ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan’s tour to the country later this month.
In addition to seeing a special musical performance, the monarch reveals one of the hardest tasks she faced while visiting the Kingdom of Tonga, and it wasn’t acclimatizing to the warm weather or getting used to the interesting foods!
In the clip, Queen Elizabeth II is visiting with three winners of the Queen’s Young Leaders Award, one of whom, Elizabeth Kite, is a former Tonga resident.
When asked if she enjoyed her visit back in 1977, the 92-year-old reminisced on her trip: “It was wonderful. We had people playing the nose flute outside the window.
Just the most extraordinary thing. Sounds awfully uncomfortable but they play it rather well,” she shared. “The only thing I found difficult was sitting cross-legged. It’s quite painful for people who are not built in the same direction.”
While the three visitors seemed a bit nervous to meet the British monarch, we can’t blame them! It must be a bit intimidating, meeting one of the world’s most beloved royal figures.
But it’s clear that the Queen puts people right at ease, jumping in with some simple small talk to lighten the mood.
Before welcoming the guests into the room, she had a member of staff open a door: “Can you open it? No, no this door – push it, push it open, thank you.Otherwise, they can’t get in,” she says with a smile, showing off her sense of humour and good nature.
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit Tonga for the first time, it will be on their first-ever official overseas trip this month.
The couple is slated to touch down in Australia on Oct. 16, later heading to Fiji and the Kingtom of Tonga before finishing their whirlwind Commonwealth tour in New Zealand on Oct. 31.
It will be interesting to compare their trip to other royals who’ve taken a similar route, as both Meghan and Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, share much of the same debut tour as royal women.
