The AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine rollout for Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou launched Featured
30 September, 2021. The AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine rollout for Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou was launched on Monday, August 28 at Niuatoputapu High School.
The event was attended by Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tonga H.E Mr MUNENAGA Kensaku, World Health Organization (WHO) Liaison to Tonga Dr. Yutaro Setoya, Minister of Health Dr. ‘Amelia Tu’ipulotu, Lord Nuku and government officials from Tongatapu.
H.E Kensaku said, “Japan provided 36,800 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Tonga via COVAX, a part of which is here with us for the first rollout in the Niuas. As the Japanese Ambassador, I am very grateful to be able to contribute to the well-being of the people in the Niuas.”
“I hope the vaccines will protect the lives of Tongan people who are, I believe, the best friend of Japanese people.”
“While our Kingdom is still Covid free we should vaccinate all the population over 18 years old as soon as possible. I believe that the Ministry of Health will keep achieving smooth and efficient inoculations based on its good management of the vaccines.”
H.E Mr. Kensaku acknowledged the efforts of the Government of Tonga through the Ministry of Health and front-liners in maintaining a COVID-19 free society as well as the swift and efficient vaccinations of the people.
According to the weekly update from the Ministry of Health, more than 800 people should be vaccinated in Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou after the rollout.
