King Tupou VI Coronation Scholarship for 2018 Featured
29 January, 2019. This year’s winner of the prestigious King Tupou VI Coronation Scholarship for 2019 is Fugalaau Elizabeth ‘Amanaki Mafi.
The New Zealand High Commissioner, HE Tiffany Babington made this announcement during the New Zealand Scholarships Farewell and Alumni Launch Reception on Friday 18 January 2019 at the Official Residence.
The Coronation Scholarship was gifted by former Governor General of New Zealand, Rt Hon Jerry Mateparae, on the occasion of the coronation of King Tupou VI in 2015.
The scholarship is offered annually to the Dux of Tonga High School for study in New Zealand, provided standard scholarship criteria are met, and recognises the commitment, motivation, drive and academic strengths the Dux has demonstrated throughout their Form 7 year.
As the 2018 Tonga High School Dux, Fugalaau Elizabeth ‘Amanaki Mafi is the third recipient of the Coronation Scholarship. Fugalaau comes from Ma’ufanga, Kolofo’ou and Folaha. She will study a Bachelor of Laws at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
At the special farewell ceremony on Friday night for all recipients of the New Zealand Scholarships for study in 2019, HE Tiffany Babington congratulated Fugalaau and her parents on her achievement.
The Coronation Scholarship is one of 31 academic scholarships offered to Tongan citizens under the New Zealand Scholarships Programme each year, for academic study in New Zealand and the Pacific region.
The New Zealand High Commissioner has requested the Lord Chamberlain formally convey Ms Mafi’s nomination to His Majesty, King Tupou VI.
