Japan’s 2018 MEXT Scholarship Recipients, congratulated Featured
H.E Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga and Mrs. Akiko Ishii presented the 2018 MEXT awardees Ms. Na’ati Fakatava and Ms. Noa Latu with their air tickets to Japan, at the reception on Wednesday, 14 March 2018.
16 March, 2018. H. E Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga congratulated the successful winners of Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Scholarship for 2018, Ms. Na’ati Fakatava and Ms. Noa Latu at a reception at his residence, jointed by members of the Tonga-Japan Alumni Association on Wednesday evening, 14 March.
The Ambassador started the reception by conveying his deepest sympathy for the devastation that many people are still suffering in the aftermath of cyclone Gita.
Then Ambassador said, “Congratulations to both of you and I am sure that you will contribute remarkably to Tonga’s development, especially its aims on sustainable development, once you finish your studies.”
He also noted that Tonga and Japan share many bonds of friendship and the MEXT Scholarship is a part of the cultural and people to people exchanges between Tonga and Japan. Ms. Na’ati Fakatava is awarded with a Research Scholarship to pursue her PhD in dentistry at the Kyushu University in Fukuoka.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Fiji and has been working at the Dental Department at Vaiola Hospital.
Ms. Noa Latu is also awarded with a Research Scholarship at the Faculty of Engineering at Gifu University for her Master’s Degree in Electronical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. She graduated with a Bachelor in Engineering, specializing in electronics from China.
The Government of Japan offers various scholarships under MEXT every year, and students from Tonga are eligible to apply for Research, Undergraduate, Specialized Training College Students and Teacher Training Programs.
Tongan students have been successfully awarded the scholarships since 1995. Both scholarship awardees are to depart for Japan in early April.
