Frontline Police Officers undergoing Officer Safety Training Featured
21 July 2022. The Officer Safety (OS) Project, administered under the Tonga New Zealand Policing Programme (TNZPP) has seen more than a hundred frontline Police Officers from Tongatapu, Ha’apai and Vava’u undertake and complete Officer Safety Training (OST).
The OST aims to equip frontline officers with tactical options, whereby improving their skills in tactical communication, risk assessment, planning and decision-making around appropriate force in response to risk incidents.
The training has been conducted by Tonga Police OS Trainers who successfully completed a ‘Train the Trainers’ qualifying course delivered by New Zealand Police in May 2021.
Frontline police officers in ‘Eua are next in the training plan and the 2 Niuas are scheduled to follow.
Tonga Police believes that with trained and appropriately equipped frontline officers, come reduced potential injuries, and improved safety level for frontline officers, members of the public, and offenders alike.
