“ I question this preposterous performance management system and how the nurses were appraised accordingly. Who carries out the assessment? The answer to these questions may provide a huge bias which would reflect skewed and statistically insignificant results.
2. The measure of ones proffessional conduct should take into account a host of variables which include working conditions, lack of staff, overworked, lack of equipment to work with, lack of CME, lack of training opportunities and the list goes on. These factors should have been taken into account or at least mentioned- how can you expect one to perform (according to your PMS) if you do not provide the proper platform?
These nurses work 8hour shifts and the ratio of a nurse to patient in Tonga is on a good day, 1:8. One nurse will slave away doing work that 4 nurses should do, without complaint and to the best of there ability. On top of this is the lack of staff and nurses having to do double shifts a lot of the time to fill in for lack of staff.
It is very easy to compare service in Tonga to overseas- however please do note, that you cannot bring an Australian standard and expect tonga to follow it, if you don't provide the nurses in Tonga with what Australia have!
As a medical health proffessional, I am disappointed that such statistics would be mentioned in public without the knowledge of the workforce first and that it was not verified before being published in public. ( Where is the proffessional conduct in that?)
I am aware that we all share our fair deal of short comings. But to state that(bluntly put), your workforce is incompetent- that is arrogant and out of line, as well as insulting to the hardworking leaders of the past and present. However on another note, one may look at the results published as a reflection of the current leader, which may not be far from the truth.
