Dear All,
As a result of many enquiries from media agencies about the situation the Ministry is now in, I am kindly asking your assistance to be more alert and factual when you talk to the public or media about issues that we discuss in our senior management meeting.
After the senior management meeting on Wednesday, there were some issues that have gone to the media as follows:-
1. That the Ministry has appointed Piveni to a position at Exams Unit. This is wrong. As I informed you, the Ministry has sent a proposal to the Central Procurement Committee for the development of an integrated assessment software and for Piveni to develop this software for the sum of TOP$150,000 (not millions). Approval will be subject to the approval of the Committee. What he is doing now at the Exams Unit is filling in gaps of examination student enrolment data that the Hon. Minister had commissioned him to do in July 2015 to trace progress of individual students from SEE to Form 7, something that the Examinations Unit and EMIS have not been able to do, that is, at the press of a button, what is the progress of Child X from SEE to Form 7, and possibly where are they now. He is doing this work voluntarily.
2. That the Ministry assigned Piveni to represent the Ministry at the Advisory Council for Education meeting on Monday, 21 Sept. Again, this is wrong. It was a sub-committee meeting and he was called by the Chairperson to explain examination related issues.
3. That Lucy has written to the Hon. Prime Minister asking to withdraw the Acting from her because she can't do the job. Again, this is wrong. I have not written anything to the Minister in this regard.
4. That the reasons for the recent transfers were relating to exam issues. This we do not know. Only the Hon. Minister can answer.
5. That someone from another division is Acting CEdO Exams. Again, this is wrong. It is Jenny at the Exams Unit who is acting.
Hope that this will be of some help, and to make you aware of the possibility of twisted stories by the media. It has also been drawn to our attention that the media interviews people live without their knowledge, just in case you didn't know.
Malo.
