Japan formalized more GGP Projects for Tonga
26 February 2024. The Grant Contracts to formalize Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project, to upgrade two village water supply system and one educational facility were signed on Friday 16 February, 2024.
H.E. Mr. INAGAKI Hisao, Ambassador Designate of Japan to Tonga signed the contracts with benefitting recipients.
The event was witnessed by Ms. Pisila ‘Otunuku, Acting CEO for Ministry of Finance, Mr. Hepeti Takeifanga, Deputy CEO for Ministry of Education and Training and Representatives from benefitting communities of Tokomololo, Navutoka and the Government Middle School of Popua.
Through this GGP, Japan will construct a new classroom building for the Government Middle School of Popua to accommodate the rapid increase of students, and will upgrade the water supply system for Tokomololo village, with installation of new water pipes to a new settlement, called Hangai.
This GGP will also renew the main water pipes for the water supply system of Navutoka village.
“Today’s three new projects have different objectives based on the immediate needs of each community,” said Ambassador INAGAKI.
“I hope that these projects will play an important role in building stronger and more resilient societies in the Kingdom, and that our friendship will continue to be enriched by our cooperation.”
Ms. Pisila ‘Otunuku, acknowledged Japan’s GGP assistance which addresses basic human needs at the grassroots level throughout the Kingdom.
Over 300 GGP projects have been formalized for Tonga, since its inception in 1990.
