Japan’s Emergency Assistance arrived Featured

26 February, 2018. Japan’s Emergency Relief Goods (tents, tarpaulin plastic sheets, generators etc.) arrived at Fa’amotu Airport on the Air New Zealand, NZ270 flight through Auckland in the weekend.

“I do hope that these equipment will be fully utilized as much as possible by the affected people in Tonga, and that Tongan communities will work together to recover soon,” stated H.E. Mr.

Tetsuya Ishii, Ambassador of Japan to Tonga, upon receiving the equipment at Fua’amotu International Airport along with Mr. Leveni Aho, Director of the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) and Mr. Shinji Yoshiura, Resident Representative, JICA Tonga Office.

The equipment will be handed over to and administered for distribution to the affected people by NEMO shortly.

Simultaneously, Ambassador Ishii met Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Tonga and conveyed a message of deepest sympathies from Mr. Taro Kono, Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs on the destruction left by Cyclone Gita.

In that meeting the Ambassador also reported on the arrival of the emergency relief goods in the afternoon which are integrated into Japan’s assistance for disaster prevention and preparedness to NEMO and other Ministries last year in June and August.
