“ May I correct the title of this article by changing it to a more befitting one, viz., "Dr Wendy Pond saddened by 'Akilisi and his Temo development at Popua."
Dr Pond is amongst a handful of dedicated scholars, both foreign and local, who have made real sacrifice by meticulously researching and writing about Tongan history, culture and society. Her latest work, carried out both professionally and beautifully, was about this cultural and archaeological heritage site of huge social, historical, political, linguistic and artistic significance.
'Akilisi and his Temo party and government (including 'Etuate Lavulavu the everlasting kaka and loi mirror image of 'Akilisi and of each other) are truly oblivious to the sheer richness of this unique cultural and archaeological site and how on earth could they value it if they can only see things as far away as selfish, ego-centred selves!
Dr Pond and her true scholar friends and colleagues will undoubtedly but dearly be remembered for their many contributions to knowledge generally and Tongan history, culture and society specifically.
As for 'Akilisi and company they will certainly be remembered by going right down in the entire history of humanity as the worse ever prime minister and government that Tonga has ever had! What a great shame! ”
