“ This will be interesting to see , what Tonga is going to do . The problems confronting the island nation are two fold [ 1 ] How to reduce carbon emission
[ 2 ] What could be done to save herself when the situation get worse because it will get worse before things improve So what does an island nation that don't have any heavy industries that emits pollution to do ? , should the Government than . limit the use of all diesel powered trucks and ships in the Kingdom ? , reduce the number of cars on the road , stop the burning of wood for cooking , banned the cutting down of trees specifically the rain forests of Eua and what rain forests that are still left on the volcanic islands of the Kingdom ?
Now what to do for the sake of self preservation . replace the mangrove along the exposed coastline also in lagoon , construct foreshore around inhabited low lying island , relocate villages that are threatened by extreme storms and raising sea levels inland ?. How about water ? agriculture ? all these will be affected by the global climate change . Careful planning is essential for future survival The Government should seek help from the rich and powerful nations ways in which they could help by reclaiming land from the sea , the dutch have been doing it for decades , why not do the same for the weak and poor and soon to be dispossessed people from low lying islands in the Kingdom ? China has just finished reclaiming an island why not pair up with her and give her 99 years lease to fishing rights in Tongan waters in lieu of the monies owed them , and negotiate a new deal with them to reclaim land so as to enlarge small low lying islands with communities thus saving them from the sea ? it'll be money worth spending and it will cost a mint , but hey ! life is more precious than money ????? ”
